Respected members of the Pusan National University School of Medicine family,
It is a profound honor to assume the role of Dean of the Pusan National University School of Medicine. As I take on this responsibility, I feel an immense sense of pride in the legacy and tradition of our institution, which has been a cornerstone of medical education in Korea. At the same time, I am deeply aware of the responsibility we bear in ensuring the continued growth and progress of our school in the years to come.
At present, medical schools across the country are facing an unprecedented crisis due to conflicts between the medical community and policymakers. The normalization of medical education has never been more critical. Additionally, we are grappling with the issue of the growing concentration of medical research and clinical practice in the Seoul metropolitan area, which threatens the balance of medical advancement nationwide.
However, for the past 70 years, Pusan National University School of Medicine has been at the forefront of regional healthcare, playing a leading role in safeguarding the health of our local communities. Moving forward, we will continue to serve as a pivotal institution, creating new opportunities and strengthening our role in regional medical innovation.
My vision for our school is to nurture medical professionals who possess not only scientific knowledge and technical expertise but also profound humanistic values and compassion. Medicine is not merely a collection of skills and knowledge—it is a discipline that requires deep understanding, ethical responsibility, and effective communication with patients. Our school will place great emphasis on fostering well-rounded physicians who embody both medical excellence and the empathy necessary to understand and care for people.
In addition, we must prepare for the rapidly evolving future of healthcare. To this end, we will integrate innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data into our medical education curriculum. By embracing these advancements, we will equip our students with the necessary tools to become leaders in medical innovation and ensure they are well-prepared for the future of healthcare.
Advancing basic medical sciences is also a crucial task. Basic medicine forms the very foundation upon which clinical medicine is built, and without progress in this field, clinical advancements cannot be achieved. I am committed to strengthening research and education in basic medical sciences so that fundamental discoveries can lead to clinical breakthroughs. Moreover, through interdisciplinary research that bridges medicine with life sciences and engineering, we will strive to establish ourselves as a leading research-centered medical school at the forefront of biomedical convergence.
As a hub of medical education and research dedicated to the health and well-being of our communities, Pusan National University School of Medicine will continue to uphold its distinguished reputation while striving for even greater excellence. Together with our esteemed faculty, dedicated students, and committed staff, I will do my utmost to propel our school to new heights in medical education and research.
I sincerely ask for your unwavering support and collaboration as we embark on this journey toward a brighter future.
Thank you.
